The Sand dunes which lie east of the strand at Lahinch were discovered by some members of the British Army in the 1890s.  The now famous golf links was originally designed by Tom Morris, a celebrated Scottish golfer, and opened in 1894.  It has been an integral attraction of Lahinch since, with a membership comprising locals as well as people from all over Ireland and beyond.  The club comprises two courses, the Links Championship Course and the 'Castel Course', as well as recently investing in the development of a world class practice range.

Further south at Doonbeg there is a golf links designed by Greg Norman, situated at the Trump 'International Resort'.
